Berber terracotta oil pot from the Atlas region of Morocco.
Hand-thrown in earthenware with a narrow neck and small loop lugs at the shoulder. Traditionally used for storing oil or smen (fermented clarified butter). Some examples retain their original rope or cloth carrying ties.
The surface shows mineral deposits, firing variation and wear from use.
Minor variations in form and surface consistent with handmade pottery and age. Decorative use recommended.
This example retains its original carrying tie.
