Nomadic terracotta cooking pot from North Africa.
Hand-formed in earthenware and traditionally fired over an open flame. The rounded body and thickened rim are typical of vessels used over embers for preparing grains and stews.
The surface shows heavy fire darkening, mineral deposits and wear from use. Some examples retain small shoulder lugs while others were made without handles.
Examples of this form are increasingly difficult to source.
Decorative use recommended.
