Antique Chinese Glazed Stoneware Preserve Jar

A substantial antique Chinese preserve jar, hand-thrown in stoneware and finished in a deep brown glaze.

The jar has a broad, slightly shouldered form with a simple raised neck and visible horizontal throwing lines throughout. Fine incised markings around the shoulder give the surface additional texture. The dark brown glaze varies naturally across the body, with areas of wear revealing the clay beneath.

Originally made as a utilitarian storage vessel, likely for preserving or storing food, this is a particularly good decorative size and shape. It works well displayed alone or grouped with other early pottery.

There are chips, glaze losses, surface marks and general wear throughout, particularly around the shoulder and rim, consistent with its age and original use. Please refer closely to the photographs for condition.
