Antique Moroccan Blue & White Jubbana Storage Jar

A hand-painted Moroccan jubbana jar with its original lid, decorated in cobalt blue against a cream glazed ground with repeating geometric and floral motifs.

Traditionally used throughout Morocco for storing butter, oils and preserved foods, these jars have become highly collectable decorative objects. This example has a pleasing rounded form, a richly painted surface and retains its original lid with finial.

The hand-painted decoration varies subtly across the surface, reflecting its handmade nature. It works equally well displayed on open shelving, a Welsh dresser or as part of a collection of North African ceramics.

There are several small historic chips around the rim and lid, visible in the photographs, together with light wear consistent with age and use. These do not detract from its decorative appeal.
