A substantial antique hand-turned wooden bowl, made from solid wood with a deep dark brown finish. The exterior retains the distinctive concentric lines from the turning process, with further tool marks visible across the interior.
Particularly good are the numerous old metal repairs, applied across the base, sides and rim to reinforce historic splits in the wood. These small hand-worked plates have clearly accumulated over the bowl's lifetime and are a distinctive part of the piece.
At 54cm across, it is a good large-scale decorative bowl for a table, kitchen island or low console, either left empty or used to hold fruit and other objects.
