A vintage French terracotta jug with a wonderfully irregular handmade form, finished in a mottled ochre and cream glaze.
The vessel has two large strap handles set either side of the neck and a small tubular pouring spout to the front. Wheel marks remain visible across the body, while the glaze varies considerably around the surface, revealing areas of the red terracotta beneath. There is also a small impressed potter’s mark near the shoulder.
Originally made as a functional household vessel, likely for storing or pouring liquids. The irregular glaze, firing marks and asymmetry are all part of its utilitarian character.
A good decorative piece for a kitchen, dresser or open shelving, either displayed alone or amongst other French and European pottery.
