An old Japanese basket, handwoven from bamboo with an open lattice construction and a square wooden frame to the base.
The basket has a rounded form with a reinforced rim and a deep brown surface, with variation across the bamboo from age and previous use. The open weave and framed base reflect its original utilitarian construction.
There are several breaks and losses to the bamboo, particularly around the sides and rim, alongside marks and wear to the wooden base. These are clearly shown in the photographs and do not affect the overall structure of the basket.
