A vintage Southeast Asian basket, handwoven from rattan with an open vertical weave and a wide, heavily bound rim.
The basket has a gently tapered form, constructed from slender upright canes joined by woven horizontal bands. The base is more closely woven for strength, while the open sides keep the construction relatively light.
Originally made as a practical household or agricultural basket, it now works well for storing textiles, kindling or other smaller household items.
There are breaks and losses to several of the upright canes, including one prominent broken section to the side, alongside general surface wear from age and use. The basket remains usable, but the condition is reflected in the price and shown clearly in the photographs.
