Vintage Southeast Asian Rattan Basket

A large vintage handwoven rattan basket from Southeast Asia, with a wide flared opening and a narrower square base.

The basket is constructed around a sturdy framework with tightly woven rattan sides and decorative woven sections running vertically at each corner. The variation in the colour of the rattan and the irregularity of the weave are particularly nice, ranging from pale straw through to deeper brown.

Originally made as a practical household or agricultural basket, it makes an excellent decorative storage piece today. Its generous size would work well for logs, blankets, magazines or general storage.

There is wear throughout consistent with age and use, including marks, darker areas and some irregularities and losses to the weave. Please refer closely to the photographs for condition.
